ARVO 2016 – Comparing Orion across OCT Devices

Voxeleron is pleased to announce the acceptance of our submission Comparison of Automated Retinal Segmentation across OCT Devices using Independent Analysis Software to the scientific sessions of the annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO 2016).  We compared 233 eyes of MS patients imaged with both the Cirrus HD-OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec) and Heidelberg Spectralis (Heidelberg Engr).  Our OrionTM analysis software (Voxeleron) was used to segment both the Cirrus and Spectralis macula volumes and two primary clinical endpoints were analyzed within an automatically centered ETDRS grid:

  • Total Retinal Thickness (TRT)
  • Ganglion Cell layer plus the Inner Plexiform Layer thickness (GC-IPL)

The figure below details the correlation for the total retinal thickness (TRT) calculated by OrionTM between the Cirrus and Spectralis scans.  For the two primary endpoints, the correlation was “excellent” (R2 of 0.94 and 0.84 for the TRT and GC-IPL, respectively).

As no correction for scanner specific measurement bias was necessary, such analysis opens the door for OrionTM-supported multi-center studies of a number of clinical endpoints using different OCT devices.
